General Info about the publishing process with GMP
The amount of time required to turn your manuscript into a printed book or ebook that you can be proud of will depend on a variety of factors, including the size of the manuscript and how much work GMP has to do on it (including proofreading, editing, and so forth). For poetry books and other shorter manuscripts that don’t require extensive work on the part of GMP, the turnaround time (from the signing of the initial contract between you and GMP to the first printed book) will usually take a minimum of about a month. Larger manuscripts will take longer, of course.
Reviewing Your Book Before It Is Printed
Once the editorial work and the layout and design have been completed on your project, to ensure that everything is exactly the way you want it, GMP will provide you with a proof copy for you to approve before you place an order for multiple copies. This proof copy (aka the review copy) is a bound book that looks exactly as it will when multiple copies are printed. It will be your final opportunity to make any changes or correct any errors.
GMP will have your book printed through a commercial firm or by one of the more reputable Internet POD (print on demand) companies. The decision as to the type of printer to use will be made only after GMP has discussed various details and options with you, including, for example, whether the text pages include any color photos or drawings, how many copies you plan to have printed initially, how often you may request reprints, whether you want to have your book sold through Amazon Books, and so forth. GMP can provide you with detailed printing-cost estimates once your manuscript has been edited and formatted, so that a final page count and other necessary information can be submitted to a potential printer. Note that most commercial printers require a minimum of 25 copies for each printing, whereas the Internet POD outfits don't require a minimum number of copies at any time, neither initially nor later.
Distribution and Sales
At the present time (late 2019), Georgia Mountain Publishing is unable to offer promotional or marketing services for the books it publishes. However, GMP will assist you, or make suggestions with regard to listing your book on Amazon, if you want it to be sold there. Any royalties or other proceeds from the sale of your book (anytime, anywhere) will belong to you. And you, the author, will be the one to decide how much to charge for your book.
Copyright and ISBN Information
You will retain all the rights to your work and, unless you decide otherwise, the book’s copyright information will be in your name or in the name of your organization. Georgia Mountain Publishing will be listed as the official publisher of the book unless you have your own publishing imprint and wish to use it or use your own name as the publisher.
The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is the book's identifying code. An ISBN and a barcode are required if your book is to be sold over the Internet (through Amazon, say) or in stores. As part of its production fee, GMP will provide an ISBN for your book at no additional cost (a $125 value), to be obtained from Bowker, the official United States ISBN agency. You will be billed for the cost of the barcode ($25).
Your Book Files
When your book has been completed, GMP will give you a zip drive containing the finalized text and cover files.
Note: If you prepare your own book cover or have it prepared by someone else, before you submit it to GMP in an acceptable digital format, an ISBN and barcode will need to be included on the back cover.
